[Hm, had someone recently said not to engage with the powerful, impervious, and potentially dangerous brother of one Elijah? Peter might be getting a little senile in his old age, he can't recall. What's he to do?
... Ring ring, Klaus, it's the telephone!]
Klaus Mikaelson, yes? Hello again, it's Peter Pan. Do you have some time for a question or two? I confess I'm a little curious about something.
[ Instantly, he's suspicious. During their first encounter, Peter certainly didn't give him the impression that he was the type to call someone just for a small chat - especially someone he'd just met. ]
You're in luck - I've plenty of time to spare. What's on your mind?
[Klaus clearly underestimates just how much of a nosy bastard this cultural icon is. And how bored sometimes. Putting his thumb in a pie and seeing what happens? That qualifies as a lovely afternoon.]
In that case, hope you don't mind if it's a bit personal, but after the message someone calling themselves your brother left, I was curious what he must have against you to warn the rest of us.
You didn't strike me as the kind of mindless villain that gets warnings like that.
[By coming on like someone who wants to get the other half of the story from the source, Peter is in a position to see where these brothers stand. Either Klaus knows the other one is out and about muddying his name, or he doesn't, in which case he soon will.]
[ Though Peter can't see it, Klaus has to close his eyes at this. He's not surprised, not with how upset Elijah still seems to be with him concerning that whole dagger incident.
His grip on the communicator tightens, almost breaking it but he stops himself in time. ]
Us villains typically try to keep a low profile when we're imprisoned in such a place. [ Not that it would have lasted long anyway - he has a fantastic habit of pissing plenty of people off, even without the threats and intimidation he usually employs. ] We had a row before he arrived here, and it seems he might still be a little cross with me.
[ Complete understatement there - Elijah had been livid from what he remembers, and he seems to be in about that same mood when it comes to Klaus. This just confirms it. ]
Tell me, did he make general accusations, or perhaps warn everyone at large that I'm the devil returned to walk the earth?
[ It's there, the impulse to immediately do the complete opposite of what Elijah demands. An old friend, that feeling, and one that instantly has his head pounding. ]
I see you're assuming the worst of me - I'd almost forgotten what that was like. [ Just a tiny hint of sarcasm there. He was on much better terms with Elijah recently in New Orleans, but it's still a very new thing. Recent developments since arriving have made things much more complicated. ] Am I to be locked up in my room, then? Clearly, the monster isn't safe among the good people here.
[ Sarcasm has blossomed into straight up bitterness. ]
I am aware of how your temper gets the better of you when dealing with hunters.
[ His brother can be biter all he likes. Elijah hasn't really seen a difference in his brother. His immediate response is to yell and scream in the woods upon his arrival. He compels the one woman in this building Elijah has a connection to. Doesn't hesitate to rub things in his face plus the lack of information he gave Elijah didn't tell him that he had changed. All signs pointed to the same ill-mannered brat with a taste for blood and chaos. ]
If you want me to see the best in you then show me, brother. Don't touch him.
[ Despite being in the midst of issues, Klaus has noticed his brother's absence. He was about to go through the mansion and seek him out when Rebekah contacted him. ]
I haven't. He hasn't been to his room, either. The fact he might have just moved did cross my mind.
[ But if Elijah isn't answering her calls, then there's something clearly wrong. Any number of things could have gone wrong. ]
[ The call is unexpected, but then it's rare for anyone to contact Klaus just to check in, say hi.
And there is something about Elizabeth that makes him less likely to ignore it, perhaps her demeanor and the remnants of nostalgia for days long passed. ]
Better than they were, though it appears my brother has gone missing. Haven't been able to tell if he's returned home, or if there's something more that might be going on.
( there is a long pause after he informs her that his brother is missing. thankfully, this is not a video conversation or he would see her frozen in horror thanks to memories of the not-so-distant past. she knows what often happens to brother whom go missing, and it fills her with dread.
once she can regain her handle on her composure, she responds with concern, but also a calm sense of resolution. no harm shall befall his brother. )
Most worrisome tidings, indeed. Will you allow me to aid in searching for him? I would very much like to help.
( not just because she's projecting and making it personal, but it is playing a large role. )
[ This event has him rattled in ways he can't even begin to sort out, but that is something only a few people will know. As it is, Klaus has to wonder wtf he did to earn such sarcastic ire.
I've not been able to force it out of him just yet.
[ And oh yes, he does plan to force it if things get to that point. ]
He's certainly a troublemaker - dropping Mikael's name like it was nothing, giving hints to the future with no intention on divulging anything further.
And he seems familiar enough to call me Nik.
[ That final point pisses him off so irrationally it's ridiculous. ]
I imagine force won't really work in this case, Niklaus.
[ He doesn't appreciate the fact that the young man knows of their father. That makes him wary. Especially since Cami has told him his father is very much alive back home. At least in the future. ]
Yes. His familiarity with us is unnerving. He referred to you as Nik and Rebekah as Beks. I assumed my missing future memories were just the culprit of me not knowing him.
[ His distaste should be clear in his voice. Dean's got several strikes against him at this point. ]
He's yet to make any sort of move that I've been able to see, so I would say don't worry. He does enjoy making threats - he and I had an interesting conversation after my arrival here.
[ Someone was mad Klaus compelled Jo for deets. What a baby. ]
I've noticed - his thinly veiled intimidation tactic was a bore.
[ Are they getting on, they're getting on aren't they, this is madness. ]
Tensed right up when I mentioned you, however. [ There's a dark chuckle that can be heard. ] Seems you've still got quite the way with hunters, brother.
[ Sure, they weren't on the best of terms, and Kol still had every intention of making a dagger to protect himself and Davina, but things weren't as tense as they could have been. Would Kol push Nik into a jail pit if one was made, well, yes. But would he fight along Nik's side if someone were trying to hurt him, yes, and that's what matters - right? ]
What sort of interesting conversation?
Edited (fixes phone tag typos dont mind me) 2015-03-11 13:15 (UTC)
[ When Nik enters his room next he'll find a small book with angel sigils and information on angel weaknesses and differences between the species of different worlds grimoire style on his bed in a very familiar handwriting. Despite this, his brother is nowhere nearby.
[ The book is a surprise, and one that he actually appreciates.
There are only a few people there he knows would leave him such a thing. Elijah would have just handed it to him, possibly with a lecture at the ready. Rebekah would have certainly said something by now, which leaves him with Kol. ]
Are you the one I should thank for this helpful book on angels?
[ An actual response from Nik surprises him, he's not sure why he didn't expect to get thanks - but he didn't. So when he reads the message he can't help but falter for a moment. Even if he is in the caverns, having spent the last hour looking for the very dagger he intends to turn into a weapon against his brother.
So he stops for a moment, looking down at the silver dagger in his hand, turning it in thought. He's past second thoughts, he's past thinking that Nik might've changed - the same mindset he awoke with every time he was undaggered.
He sets it down for a moment to type a text back. ]
In your room, are you? Yes. I got a crash course on them, and you said you wanted to know how to protect yourself from them.
I've not had to try the sigils but I trust the source that taught them. He was just desperate enough to tell the truth.
